When I dream

John Henry Fuseli The Nightmare

John Henry Fuseli The Nightmare

I wrote this poem some time ago when I as in a contemplative mood. When I was very young I was tormented by dreams of vague menace. I was no stranger to waking up in a cold sweat. As I grew the dreams stopped. I don’t profess to know where dreams come from or what their significance is. This is simply a perspective on dreaming. I hope you enjoy.

Live well,
Ollie Lind

When I dream

A dream is, to many,
a sight of what is, or was,
changed to protect any
whose sight dimmed because

they could not face the fear
of they knew not what;
just that it was near,
far away from being dear.

Terror is an awesome sight,
a blight to sanity, no vanity
or pride can hide the starkness,
a bitter darkness of the soul.

We can make no feature
of the creature, whose visage
of rage is a cage to catch and
hold those feelings that seem
to plague all who dream.
