A young lady calls me from time to time. We have never met but I, as a writer, imagine what she is like. I try to create a past, present and future for the disembodied voice on the telephone. This gives me a character I can relate to. I hope you enjoy.

It’s Sunday morning here in Sydney, Australia. The date is September 2. That means it’s spring. As I drove out from the car park of my gym I turned right. Right into very heavy traffic, not usual for a Sunday. Unless the local football team had a home game.
