The Bowl

This week’s noteworthy news is about the Super Bowl. The clash of the champions and the underdogs.

The Giants showed the power of belief. With less than two minutes to go all seemed lost. But somebody forgot to tell the Giants. Once again we see the truth of the old saying. “True champions never give up.”

A great game that captured the imagination of millions of people all over the world. This poem is my comment on and tribute to two magnificent teams who typify all that is good about sport.

The Bowl

Patriots gather, take up arms.
March together, brothers in arms.
Searching for the perfect score,
Seeking to enter football lore.

What stands between them and fame?
Giants by deed, giants by name.
Pretenders or players, who can tell?
We’ll know for sure at the bell.

The struggle starts, it’s very close,
Commentators so verbose.
Not far to go, the patriots score,
New England hopes, as one they soar.

But, at the death, the Giants rise,
Eyes fixed only on the prize.
Touchdown sounding the death knell,
Consigning Patriots hopes to hell.

Now we know how dreams are made,
Stand in the sun, never the shade.
Giant deeds by Giants done,
They stand together now as one
