The “election” is over. Significant opposition figures have been either imprisoned or murdered. The despot will retain, at least for the present, power over his miserable and oppressed people. The Western world has wrung its collective hands and ranted about ‘sanctions’ and ‘political pressure.’

The African continent, itself not wholly without corruption, stands by and talks about diplomacy. In reality, it we want to be brutally honest, there is little hope for democracy in the face of oppression without the courage to confront evil.

I don’t pretend to have the answer, but I feel the need to at least join the chorus of protest at this latest example of humanity’s inhumanity. I will be posting a poem regarding the African tragedy. At least I will have stated an opinion.

Live well,

Ollie Lind

Darkness is Come

Weep, Africa weep.
Ill wind blows across the land.
Evil despot strives to keep
all power in his iron hand.

Dark land, once rich and free,
kneels, bent knee and misery.
Dark despot stands astride,
destroys again all sense of pride.

Murder, mayhem, darkest strife,
destroys all human hope for life.
No longer young and strong and just
Mugabe surrenders to his lust.

Power just for power’s sake,
leaves all opponents in his wake.
What can be done, his power to quell
to save them from a living hell?
