Dafur

I read this week about Dafur. It seems that the crisis there is now worse than it has ever been. I have written a poem to express my dismay at how we, as civilized beings, can allow atrocities such as Dafur to continue.

Oh, I hear the politicians say how complex the problems are and that we must obey the laws of diplomacy and respect the right of oppressive regimes to brutalize their populations. Someday we must realize that we, the civilized world are playing by rules that are exploited by the evil minded individuals who are an enemy to mankind. I am not advocating reducing to their inhuman level of behaviour, but surely we can do something.

I am very interested to see what happens next in Zimbabwe. Who knows, maybe that will be the subject of next week’s poetical political comment.

Live well,

Dafur

Why is it we so often see
The darkened image of misery?
Women raped, children slain,
For what purpose, for what gain?

Different faith, we are told,
They are not of our fold.
They cannot live and love
From different father from above.
Even children holding a gun
To prove they can be the one
To mete out “justice” full of pride,

But even they cannot hide
Evil deeds so often done,
In the name of the one
Who says his is the only way
All others must be made to pay.

Dafur has no call to fame,
Rather a single call to shame.
Evil deeds so often done
Will ever bring us close as one.

Will the world ever heed
The cries of innocents in need
Of help, no more starvation,
Instead a path to salvation
