I drew inspiration for this poem from the knowledge that every major city on the planet has this problem. I believe we owe it to [tag-tec]our children[/tag-tec] to protect them from the circumstances depicted in the poem. So many of us simply shut our eyes when we see these children. If just one person stops to care it might make a difference.
Children of the Night
They flit twixt shadow and the light,
they are the [tag-tec]children of the night[/tag-tec].
On street corners they sell their wares.
They stand alone, they stand in pairs,
It’s plain to all no home have they.
Banished, vanished to the grey
netherworld of drugs and sex,
exploited for their youthful flesh
Flesh soon tainted and diseased
by paedophile, needle and sleaze.
Those who profit from this disgrace
should be banished to a place
where purgatory is the prize
for purveyors of the lies
that life is always aglitter
for young souls, soon to bitter
regret, remorse and ostracised
by a needle brutalized.
“Good folks” who know no better
believe it would be best to fetter
such young outcasts from the state.
Elsewise leave them to their fate.
A fate only the knowing can utter
dead, dying, broken in the gutter.
They flit twixt shadow and the light
they are the children of the night.
When will we all awake askance
and give these children half a chance.

You made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with your blog.
You you could edit the blog name Children of the Night | Ollie Lind Poetry to more generic for your blog post you make. I enjoyed the the writing however.
